Speech and Language Therapy
Specialized Care
Building Communication Skills for Confident and Meaningful Interactions
We have created a comprehensive Speech Therapy program at our Open Arms Child Development Centre, which is located in Kannammoola, Thiruvananthapuram. The purpose of this program is to assist children with developing effective means of communicating or communicating with others through language, speech, social interaction, or other forms of communication (such as gestures).
At Open Arms, our qualified Speech-Language Pathologists will complete a comprehensive assessment of each child's communication abilities so they can make requests and express their thoughts appropriately. They will also prepare an Individualized Treatment Plan based on the results from this assessment.
Using play-based, engaging therapeutic sessions, Speech-Language Pathologists will provide children with skills and strategies that will enable them to communicate confidently within their home, schools and community environments.
Key Focus Areas
Speech Sound Development
Assist a child in developing correct and accurate pronunciation, articulation, and overall clarity of speech so that they and others can communicate effectively.
Language Development
Assist a child in developing vocabulary, sentence structure, comprehension and conversation skills so that they are able to develop and use language appropriately.
Social Communication Skills
Develop a child's ability to engage in social interactions (e.g., turn-taking, maintaining a conversation, understanding social cues), as well as the ability to build social relationships through their communication activities.
Fluency/Voice Therapy
Assist a child with stuttering or voice issues, both of which may impact the confidence they have to communicate effectively.
Our Approach
Full assessment
We assess your child's speech and language communication ability by evaluating your child's skills in all areas (cognitive, physical, social-emotional, etc.) through observation, questionnaires from their parents, and interviews.
Setting individual objectives
Based on your child's assessment results and the priorities of their family, we develop individualized communication goals to help your child achieve meaningful progress in speech/language, academics, and everyday routines.
Providing play-based speech/language therapy
During our therapy sessions, we use fun, interactive, age-appropriate activities, games, stories and experiential learning experiences to keep children's interest and motivation and assist them in learning new speech and language skills in a fun and safe way.
Providing parent education/training and support at home
We work closely with families by providing practical strategies, home programs, and education/training for parents to help support the development of speech/language skills at all times and ensure continuous progress after discharge from therapy.
